How do I find a fire circle?
Fire circles are numbered 1 through 6 from the base of Picnic Point to
the tip.
Visit the interactive
map.
Clik the WAYFINDING button and turn on "Visitor
Amenities" and look for the orange campfire icons.
About campfires at Picnic Point:
- Campfires must be in a designated fire circle
- If requested, Physical Plant will try to provide firewood
- Do NOT bring firewood to Picnic Point. Wood may harbor destructive pest insects or fungi.
- Fire suppression equipment is required (buckets of water can be
carried from the lake);
- Fires must be extinguished by 10pm, when the Point closes
- Any special Dane County burning restrictions in effect must be
observed
- No alcoholic beverages allowed
- Vehicles may NOT be used to transport people or supplies to fire circles

Ice safety information
Is it safe to go out on the frozen lake? The Dane County Sheriff Department
Lake Patrol, 284-6878, can give people the "official word." Visit
the Marine
and Trail Enforcement page of the Dane County Sheriff and
read the Ice Ordinance at http://www.danesheriff.com/ice.htm .
Swimming information
For lake conditions in the Preserve, or swimming conditions in the Preserve
beaches, contact the UW-Madison Safety Department 262-5865 or visit the
website: http://www2.fpm.wisc.edu/uwrescue/
The Madison Department of Public Health, 294-5357,
can tell you if Spring Harbor or Memorial Union beaches are open and
safe for swimming. Visit their web site: http://www.cityofmadison.com/beaches/
